Would a generic Live2D model suit me?
How it differs from a one-off model
A generic model can be sold to more than one buyer. Before you choose, decide whether sharing the same appearance is acceptable, what files are included, and which changes are allowed.
Generic or one-off,
which should you choose?
Start with this question: are you comfortable with other people having the same appearance? Generic models are sold to multiple buyers; a one-off model is sold as a limited single item.
You are comfortable sharing the same appearance
A generic model may be a good candidate. With a finished generic model, you can choose from its appearance and movement. If other people use the same model, that is still an intended use of the sales format as long as each buyer follows the terms.
Some products allow color or hairstyle changes, but check whether those functions exist and what conditions apply to that particular product.
You do not want more buyers of the same model
A one-off model may be a good candidate. Check the number of permitted sales and read the scope of use granted to the buyer.
A “one-off” label alone does not mean that copyright is transferred or that every modification is allowed. Check conditions such as whether the creator may feature the work in their portfolio.
You want to start with your own character idea
If no ready-made product fits, a custom commission is another option. The request changes depending on whether you want to commission the illustration as well or add movement to artwork you already have.
“Generic or one-off” describes the number of sales; “ready-made or custom” describes how the work is made. First clarify which of these choices matters to you.
Choosing a generic model does not make your stream’s topics or speaking style identical to anyone else’s. Decide before buying how much visual uniqueness matters to you.
Does “generic” mean
it moves immediately?
“Generic” describes the sales format. Check the product contents separately to see whether a ready-to-use moving file is included.
Is a finished model file included?
Check whether the model data that your app can load is included. A separated PSD is source artwork for production, and it usually requires a separate modeling job to add movement.
Does it work with the app you want to use?
Check the supported apps listed for that product, such as VTube Studio. “Generic” does not mean that the model works with every app or smartphone.
What does the price include?
Compare the included expressions, outfits, color changes, and extra illustrations. If you need additional production or an app purchase, budget it separately from the model price.

Compare the streams you plan to make, the parts you want to change, and how the creator should be credited with the product’s terms.
Before buying: write down these three things
What will you use it for?
Example: casual YouTube streams, with monetization planned. Include merchandise if you may make it. Do not treat “commercial use allowed” as an answer to every use; confirm that your specific activity is permitted.
What do you want to change?
Example: you want blue hair. Check separately whether the included functions can do it, whether editing data or an additional request is needed, and whether modifications are permitted.
Where should you credit the creator?
A credit identifies the creator. If a profile or stream description is specified, prepare that wording. Ask the seller before buying if anything is unclear.
When contacting the seller, it is easier to get a clear answer if you combine the use and request: “I would like to monetize it on YouTube and change the hair color. Can I make that change with the included functions? Is credit in the description enough?”
Whether you can freely choose the name and setting, or add an outfit later, also differs by product. Choose only after checking that the model will support the activity you have in mind.
