Buying a Live2D model on Etsy?
Check the finished model, included files, and usage terms

Can you tell from the title whether it will move right away or what you will receive? Check real model previews, included files, and usage terms before downloading and importing your purchase.

Merino-chan checks the model files, real motion preview, and usage terms on an Etsy Live2D listing.

Does every product labelled
“Live2D” move right away?

Merino-chan points out that buyers should check the files included in a Live2D product.

Check the files you will receive, not just the title.

Live2D illustrations and layered PSDs are different from a finished model that an app can load. Look for terms such as “premade,” “rigged,” or “ready to use,” then check the description for runtime files such as .moc3 and model3.json, supported apps, and the ZIP contents. PSD and .cmo3 files are source or editing files; .moc3 is exported model data for runtime use.

Compare the real model previews
with the included files

Use still images to inspect appearance, videos to see the motion shown, and the description to confirm delivery files. Check whether it is a bust or full-body model, how many expressions are included, and which toggles it has.

A finished model does not tell you
which uses are allowed

Merino-chan reminds buyers to check the product-specific usage terms for their planned activity.

“Commercial use allowed” may not answer every question.

“Premade” describes an existing work offered for sale; “non-exclusive” means more than one buyer may purchase the same model. These terms differ from a one-off sale or a custom commission. They do not automatically transfer copyright, grant exclusive use, or permit every kind of modification.

Check these terms on the product page

  • Your streams and videos: Is monetization allowed?
  • Model changes: Can you change colors, hair, or clothes, and what files or features are needed?
  • Credit: Is creator credit required, and where should it appear?
  • Restrictions: Are redistribution, transfer, merchandise, or use by another person prohibited?
  • Product-specific extras: Are they limited to this model or a particular activity?

Our Catgirl and HamsterGirl are non-exclusive finished models. Buyers may use them as their own avatar in monetized streams, videos, and social posts. Redistribution, resale, and transfer are prohibited. Merchandise, client work, and use as another person’s avatar require separate permission. Read each product’s license for the full terms.

These terms describe our two products only. Other Etsy listings may have different conditions. Ask that seller before buying if your planned use is unclear.

After checkout, download the files
and import the model

Before buying, check whether the listing is an instant download or a made-to-order digital item. Instant downloads become available after payment is confirmed, which may take a few minutes. Etsy digital files cannot be downloaded from the Etsy app; use Etsy.com in a browser.

    Download in a browser

    If you bought while signed in, open the order under “Purchases and reviews” on Etsy.com. For a guest order, use the download link in the receipt email.

    Extract ZIP files if supplied

    If your files arrive in a ZIP archive, extract it first. Check for the model files and guides. Keep the complete model folder and its internal file structure intact.

  3. 03

    Load it in desktop VTube Studio

    Open the model selection menu, then choose “Import your own Model” → “Open folder.” Copy the complete extracted model folder to Live2DModels, then select it from the model list. Connect your tracking device and calibrate it for your face.
